Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, sleepy town. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar of its purpose. Many people believe that it is an island west of Montreal however it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities in Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. But it's not the case. Brugel developed on Courtice close to Oshawa within Ontario. She had a dream to become a dancer, but a growth spurt meant that she literally outgrew her dance partner. She admitted in an article published by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. After I surpassed my male counterparts and gave up, I decided to give up. Brugel was one of many former dancers that turned into acting. Her teacher from high school was the one who pushed her to take the next step. One of her teachers suggested she take part in an audition for the annual school play. The teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual show. The show was granted the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated from the program in 2000, earning a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. Over the past 20 years, her roles in the world of television and on the screen have been varied. The role of Rita from the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast in the season 1 of the series and not seen much.
